A.E.M.'s (Automated Electrified Monorails)
Originally designed as an alternative to Power and Free chain conveyors, AEM's are a lightweight, overhead monorail with individually powered carriers whose functions are completely automated. AEM's require fewer carriers. They emit very little noise; provide a clean environment, easy housekeeping, variable work heights and access, stationary and paced operations, excellent appearance and quality of work life. Because they use individual carriers it eliminates the chance of chain breakage or a chain driven stoppage (on a typical overhead chain conveyor) which could cripple a whole section of the plant. As an overhead system, they avoid traffic in aisles and its small vehicles can provide easier access to parts and equipment. Other advantages of this type of system include high speed delivery, rapid index between stations, pacing and parallel moving process lines and creep speed for accurate spotting at fixed stations. This can solve the needs for non-synchronous production, flexible processing and just-in-time systems. |
