Grabs and Tongs
There are wide variety of these components to choose from, many are industry specific. Below is a list of the three standard configurations that are most common. Gripping – By conforming to the load surface (usually with pads), forming a sufficient, coefficient of friction. Used for gripping the outside of materials such as coils, rolls, tubes and other cylindrical materials. Pressure – Clamps the load and supports it by indenting the load – gripping vertical sides of materials such as cotton, bales of hay, boxes, ingots and other straight sided loads that will not be damaged by lateral force. Supporting – Used for constant sized loads such as containers, boxes and crates. Allows the operator to lift, move, and place and disengage the lifted item without assistance from another individual or without moving from the crane/hoist control station. |
